Version: (using KDE 4.2.2) OS: Linux Installed from: Unspecified Linux A panel is (like the dashboard) nothing more than a "place where to put plasmoids" so, for consistency, panels should be something related to an activity. When zooming out, panels should get smaller and stay anchored to the related activity. In this way the user can choose different panel configuration (number of panels, position, widgets on it etc...) for diffent activities.
I completely agree on this. Why a simple plasmoid container must appear on every activity? Starting from 4.3 now you can have one activity per virtual desktop, so every virtual desktop switch forces an activity switch, and here per-activity panels make even more sense. Another way to deal with it is providing another kind of panel, keeping current type still available for people who really like this. Furthermore, if this new panel is going to group plasmoids should work in a similar way as other plasmoids do, that is, you can freely place it wherever you want, and even resize/rotate. Regards

I like the way that it is implemented right now. The same panel is seen in every activity. But having a different panel for each activity (when activity and virtual desktop are mapped) is not a bad idea. So my idea in order on how to implement this new feature is this one: Panels have an option to: "Show on all activities" which it is activated by default. If you actually want to have a panel only in one activity you will manage to find this option and uncheck it.
This would have helped me a lot in work today. I wanted to test this fancy Activity feature on my linux on the external HDD which I use at work, when studying/in library and at friends. So I left the studying activity which features desktop icons and network related things and a nice background picture. At work I have a beamer attached which stupidly is the primary monitor and there is no way of changing it. So I duplicated the current activity, named it work and set the company‘s logo as background. Then I moved the panel from the beamer over to my computer‘s screen and noticed that the panels are independent from activities. So, the next time I plug in the disk at a computer with one screen only and change to the studying activity, the panel will still be “gone” since it‘s offscreen. At least make it an option to attach a panel to an activity.
