Description m.wege 2009-04-11 00:53:57 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.2)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

I know this may be difficult, because skype does not officially supports this, but I heard it may be possible:
Provide the possibility to use multiple accounts with the skype plugin by starting two instances of skype which do not know of each other. That would be a really cool useful. You could then have an offical and a more private account.

I have googled a bit and there were some hints on how to this:

Yes, I know it is possible.
If I start second (third, ...) skype with different parm --dbpath=<path> all instances register public api on dbus (and maybe X11 messaging work too), but only first will register name.
So I must browse dbus and find skype dbus id.

But I dont know what will skype do with voice and video devices. I dont know if voice call will be works.

This is in TODO (see http://websvn.kde.org/trunk/KDE/kdenetwork/kopete/protocols/skype/TODO?view=markup). Maybe If I have time I do it.

I need reimplement communication with public skype api, for this support and then I add support for X11 messaging (not only DBus).

Now I'm doing support for hide skype client call dialog and moving webcam stream to other window (with Xlib). So NO skype client window will be show.

Hi Pali, that really sounds like you have great plans for the plugin. But I have a question: There was a comment on the old skype wishlist bug, suggesting to implement all the skype functions via the telepathy framework:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=90946#c122
It seems also like framework is coming along:
http://grundleborg.wordpress.com/2009/08/10/weekly-update-the-third-kopetetelepathy-almost-ready-for-testing/
So since the general plugin within KDE works now, the commenter would be right with his suggestion. Of course I am not a technician, it now sounds logical to me.

Kopet Telepathy doesnt support voice and video, so I dont implement it to telepathy yet. Maybe later.

Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained.

Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
