Description Daniel Mader 2009-04-09 11:02:24 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

The printer type and the available features are not properly parsed from the CUPS settings. Instead, there is always a full list of supported features: color & black and white, duplex, etc.

The expected behavior should be:
only the supported features of a printer are displayed, and the settings from CUPS should be taken over.

Example:

* an HP LaserJet 4050 with duplex unit should appear only as black and white printer, and the double sided printing should default to the administrative CUPS settings, in this case long-edge duplex.
* an HP Color LaserJet CP3505 with duplex unit should have both color and bw option, with the default being color, plus long-edge duplex.

Additionally, the printer settings made by the user are not stored permanently: i.e. setting the duplex and color mode settings correctly is not preserved, so that that must be redone for every print job.

The printer dialog is provided by Qt, if it doesn't work you should open a bug in their bug tracker. http://bugreports.qt.nokia.com/
