Version: (using KDE 4.2.2) Installed from: Ubuntu Packages I work in technical support for a decently-sized organization (about 900 users). I use kopete with out GroupWise messenger system to communicate with users when I assist them. Before switching to kopete, I was using Pidgin. The biggest thing I miss is being able to send a message directly to an account that I have not added as a buddy/contact. With Kopete, I have to first add the user as a contact, then message them, then remove the contact when I'm done. Why not just add the users and leave them? - I don't have time to keep up with adding/removing contacts all the time - I don't want a buddy list 900 people long. - I don't want to hear about it every time one of these 900 people logs in/out or is away/here. But I do want to hear about it when some of my regular contacts or buddies on other IM accounts are, and these notifications can only be toggled globally. What I'm envisioning is an option in the right-click menu for an account (the menu where I can select online/offline/etc for an account) an option like "Send a message directly...". This could bring up the search dialog used for adding contacts, but instead of adding it could have an extra field for a message. Possibly, there could be a "temp" folder in the contacts list where this account could be automatically added for a configurable length of time and then removed.
Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained. Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
