Description Dave Plater 2009-04-08 12:09:31 UTC
Version: kde4-kweather (using KDE 4.2.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

The kweather widget in kde3-toys used airport weather information to display the current weather and as a result enabled one to display weather from anywhere in the world.
kde4-kweather widget has only a canadian, a usa and the bbc for weather information. This excludes a large part of the world.
My wish is for kweather to use airport weather information again.

We could add this. We don't use NOAA's METAR information like kweather does but this could be an addon plugin for METAR airport information.

No update yet. Need to port kweather's data source mechanism to plasma.

Station ID URL: http://weather.noaa.gov/tg/site.shtml (http://weather.noaa.gov/data/nsd_bbsss.txt)
Station Data URL: ftp://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/data/observations/metar/stations/<CODE>.TXT

We can steal most if not all of kweather's code and change some of it to deal with the icons we have and sunrise/sunset info for the proper icons.

Yes, please, add more weather providers with support for more cities. Not being able to use standard Plasma weather stuff is annoying

+1 for adding the KDE3 airport weather. I'm currently using BBC, however this seems quite useless outside the UK, as it seems to lag for hours. Temperatures seem to be hours old and I sometimes get a moon shown, when there is broad daylight ...

It is coming. Aaron and myself have been cleaning up some memory allocation issues I introduced when I initially wrote the code. I do need to find a real job you know :)

But this is my #1 item for KDE 4.4, which will be backported to 4.3.

This is currently 60% done, in playground. I want to finish the rest this week.

Ok, maybe longer than I thought... I will get back to this this/next week

Yes, KDE 4.4 will have kweather data. You may search by Airport ID or station
name, this is coming.

Thanks,
Shawn.

Shawn Starr, can you backport this in KDE 4.3.1 or 4.3.2?
Thanks for your great job :)

Francesco.

I haven't yet done this. I am sort of dealing with RL issues right now (read: Finding a job) :/ But this isn't off my list of things to finish sooner or later.

We still need a METAR weather engine plugin.. I know.... I want it too

Hello!

This feature request was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this feature request is already implemented in Plasma 5, or is no longer applicable.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this feature request. If the requested feature is still desired but not implemented in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!

Nate Graham
