Description Rafael 2009-04-07 04:34:56 UTC
Version: 4.2.2 (using KDE 4.2.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

KDE usually takes too much time to close, it keeps with a black screen and the mouse pointer for a while.
I love KDE and I think this must be fixed or optimized.

isn't this more a wish than a bug?
Comment 2 Andreas Hartmetz 2009-04-07 14:37:59 UTC
Now that I see this report and think about it, this has been annoying me for a long time. Especially when e.g. I have to leave to catch a train/bus and try to turn off the computer (waiting if some application interrupts the shutdown) it is somewhat annoying to wait so long every time.
As this affects almost every single user I'd call it a low severity high priority bug, but the maintainers should decide, I guess.
Comment 3 Aaron J. Seigo 2009-04-28 19:51:59 UTC
it's waiting for applications to quit / save state, and has nothing to do with plasma:

aseigo@independence:~> time kquitapp plasma-desktop

real 0m0.043s
user 0m0.012s
sys 0m0.004s

plasma shuts down nice and quickly.

i'd like a nicer shutdown process as well, one that uses the log in splash screen. but that's something for ksmserver

the "prettier" part is covered in bug 188476.

as for the long black phase ... yeah, i guess everyone sees that at least from time to time. it would cool if ksmserver showed a "progress" dialog which indicated for which clients it is still waiting. that would allow for more directed bugging.

Does this still happen in 4.9.0 or newer versions?

Waiting for feedback.
