Description Pierre Buard 2009-04-03 00:30:59 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Unlisted Binary Package

The Kickoff menu doesn't hide when one clicks outside of it.

How to reproduce:
- Click on it, the menu is displayed,
- Don't launch a program,
- Click somewhere outside kickoff,
- The menu is still there!

Expected behavior:
Kickoff should close automatically when the user click outside of it.
Or at least an option should be added to control this behavior.

This also happens with at least 2 other widgets: the connected devices thingy and the clocks' calendar. The fact that the calendar remains on screen doesn't bother me (actually it can be useful that way) but the others are too big not to close themselves automagically.

Are you using Desktop Compositing (effects) ?
Thanks
Comment 2 Antonio Rojas 2009-04-03 10:07:54 UTC
Possibly related to bug 188655 ? Popup applets are badly broken in 4.2.2 :(
Comment 3 FiNeX 2009-04-03 11:45:53 UTC
I can reproduce this bug too. With and without compositing.

Yes, I am. But just to be sure I tested this without them to no avail.

My shoddy memory seems to remember that it worked as expected in =< 4.2.1 (at least concerning Kickoff).

@A Rojas: it's probably a duplicate.
To everyone: if you click the Kickoff icon to launch the menu, does the searchbar at the top get keyboard focus ? If it doesn't. this is a duplicate of bug 188655
Comment 6 Marek Laane 2009-04-04 15:35:49 UTC
No, it doesn't but are you sure it's duplicate? I mean the underlying cause may be same but symptoms themselves are differnt, aren't they? So no duplicates but maybe just related (there are possibilities to mark BR with "Bepends on" or "Blocks")?

+1 on both remarks (although I'm not a developer :-)
Comment 8 Dario Andres 2009-04-04 16:45:10 UTC
May be we can mark it as related/dependsOn.
Look at bug 188756 (it shows the two things)

Same problem here, using KDE 4.2.2 on Mandriva Cooker. The Kickoff menu really insists staying open even after I have clicked somewhere on the desktop. Really small but deeply annoying, if you ask me. :)

This is not a wish, this is a bug since it is a regression. It worked well in 4.2.1 and was designed to close when losing focus. I.e., the calendar remains open is by design. If kickoff remains open is a bug.

I'm glad we have a classic app launcher. :)

Same reason and fix as bug 188655
