Description Jan Torben Heuer 2009-03-31 13:40:34 UTC
Version: 0.99.01 (using 4.2.1 (KDE 4.2.1), Kubuntu packages)
Compiler: cc
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.28-11-generic

Since the 4.x versions of knode I cannot connect to my news server "news.uni-muenster.de".

In the current version, I get a Timeout on server message. This happens for the unencrypted connection and for the SSL connection (But still I'm asked to verify the certificates).

Hello Jan,
sorry for this late reply.

Do you still have this problem ? (I never encounter this issue)

If yes, could you follow the instruction at http://techbase.kde.org/User:Nive/KNode and paste lines of interest in this report.
If you know how to create it, a pcap dump of the failed connection could be usefull.

Thanks,

To get this error you should do whichever you want for about 30 secs without connecting to a server. Writing the reply, browsing previously downloaded articles, whatever.

Here I have had subscribed to the test group on the news server (kraft.test) switched to it and immediately got timeout error.

If you retry any of your action it'll work perfectly till the new timeout occurs.

Hello Everyone,

I have the same problem on Debian 6 x64 running KDE 4.4.5 and 4.4.7 KNode.

Here is what I see .xsession-errors:

kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/bin/knode
kio_nntp(4172): Unexpected response to "XOVER" command: ( 412 ) 412 Not in a newsgroup

kio_nntp(4172)/kio (kioslave) KIO::SlaveBase::error: error() called twice! Please fix the KIO slave.

And then I got timeout error. Any help on resolving this?

Hello! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this project has been unmaintained for many years so I am closing this bug.
