Description Marc Haber 2009-03-28 12:42:26 UTC
Version: 0.70.0 (using KDE 3.5.10)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

Hi,

when one clicks the SSL box in kopete's XMPP setup box, it changes to TCP port 5223 and tries to immediately do SSL when connecting. This method has been deprecated and replaced by STARTTLS done on port 5222. A lot of servers out there do not support direct xmpp-over-ssl no port 5223 any more.

To allow kopete to be used with such a server, it would be good if XMPP starttls would be implemented.

Greetings
Marc

Is there still no TLS support in kopete-4.4 or do I need to compile something special? Many Jabber servers are dropping support for SSL.

Kopete, at least in version 1.0.80 supports starttls. This should be closed.
Comment 3 Martin Collins 2013-08-07 16:31:20 UTC
I have version 1.4.5.
The Jabber connection configuration still only offers SSL, not STARTTLS, and if you choose SSL it still switches the port to 5223.
If Kopete does support STARTTLS perhaps someone could add it to the Jabber config page so we can use it.

Try version from KDE 4.11. It has updated jabber library libiris.
Comment 5 Martin Collins 2013-08-16 02:23:10 UTC
Yes, version 1.5.0 automatically uses STARTTLS (it does not show as an option in the config page). So you really can close this now.
