Description Jonathan Muller 2009-03-27 17:12:47 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.0)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

When you insert a function like f(x) = ceil(x) to draw a cartesian plot,
then Kplot draws a Graph like this:

           |
        ___|
       |
    ___|
   |
___|

For the first look, this seems to be absolutely logical and correct.
But if you look at this a little bit more strict, then you see that
this graph is, seen from a mathematical point of view, false. You can't draw a line from e.g. (1/0) to (1/1) because the function does not go from the one to the other Point continuous, but makes a immediate step from y=0 to y=1. So the correct Graph has to look something like this -->
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Floor_function.svg.

This case applys also on all the other functions that make abrupt steps,
e.g. sign, floor, round etc.

This might be hard to implement, because for the typed in function, you will have to determine on which points it makes steps or where the x value is contained in the domain of definition. I can't say wich priority to give to this issue, because there might be other bugs that are more severe. But especially because this application might be used in education, this issue could arouse incertitude on students or what ever.

(sorry for my sometimes a little strange English :P)
