Description Unknown 2009-03-24 21:24:50 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.1)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Unlisted Binary Package

the message "cannot open default user face" written in the
/var/log/daemon.log

ist not very usefull, takes place in the log-file without necessary.

The distribution should be completed with the directory
/usr/share/apps/kdm/faces

and the two files
/usr/share/apps/kdm/faces/.default.face.icon
/usr/share/apps/kdm/faces/root.face.icon

a "make install" from source will do that. file a bug with your distribution.

i'll make the message somewhat more informative, but that won't solve the problem as such.

Here is the downstream bug report: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/13954

Of course "make install" is used to create the package. Anyway the icons are installed under /usr/share/apps/kdm/pics/users/.

I wonder if this is a bug at all (everything works fine). Was the path /usr/share/apps/kdm/faces/ used by KDE3?
Comment 3 Unknown 2009-03-29 19:02:28 UTC
I never used KDE3.
I just begun a few days ago.
I get only the actual binaries.
Some icons are really installed under /usr/share/apps/kdm/pics/users/
ls -l /usr/share/apps/kdm/pics/users/
total 112

but the greeter is looking elsewhere such I have written on my first call.

pics/users/ are the available, not the configured faces.
genkdmconf will create the default and root face during make install. if it doesn't, then somehow the distributor screwed up.
