Version:           KOrganizer Version 4.2.1 and previous (using KDE 4.2.1)
OS:                Linux
Installed from:    SuSE RPMs

in kde 3 finished tasks appeared in the journal
since kde 4 it doesn't work

There's a setting for this, did you enable it?

Settings->Configure KOrganizer->Views->Todo View->"Record completed to-dos in Journals"
