Description A. Mosteo 2009-03-04 18:16:07 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.0)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

Each time I try to log-off, for example to force saving of dashboard configuration that gets lost after crashes, the system does a complete shutdown.

Repeatable 100% in two computers, both upgraded from Hardy. No idea how to diagnose further.

this no longer happens in 4.2, and you could just do kquitapp plasma instead of logging out.

in any case, logging out is not part of plasma, it's part of ksmserver. and it works just fine in upstream. it seems. do you have any special settings like "don't confirm log out" or some such?

You're right that this doesn't belong to plasma, I had just filed another bug for plasma and got carried away.

Thanks for the hit about kquitapp. Though, I must say this is my observation, again in those two machines, with 4.2, after a crash: config for the panel is kept properly. New widgets added to the dashboard are kept correctly. BUT, widgets removed from the dashboard reappear after the crash. It is possible, though, that these widgets were added prior to 4.2

In regard to the logout issue (and sorry, I know it's not proper to mix bugs in a same report), I had indeed unselected the "confirm logout" option. Just checked that enabling it indeed seems to workaround (only tried once) the shutdown problem.

Should this be marked as duplicate of bug 182466 ?

Yes, that's what's happening to me. I'll do it.
