Description Pedro Ivo 2009-02-27 19:37:42 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.0)
Installed from: Fedora RPMs

It would be nice to set up and edit metadata in the IPTC Extension Schema for XMP standard inside digiKam (via kipi).

IPTC 2008:

additionally digiKam should be added on this software list:

Isn't Extension Schema still in somewhat vauge state?

About adding: +1, also info about exiv2 should be updated.

if not the IPTC Extension Schema, it would be nice to create and manage custom metadata fields with controlled vocabulary support.

i'm about to scan a lot of negatives (about 50000) and add them to an existing digital archive and it is indispensable to repeat the physic organization of the negatives (archive/folder/sleeve/photo number) on the metadata of the scanned images. the sad thing about this is that the field reserved for this kind of data in IPTC Core, IPTC Status/Instructions, is already used by the existing digital images to inform if the image has been treated.

the controlled vocabulary is also necessary since we need to minimize human typing errors (we are working with 4 voluntaries, two of them not familiar with computers/keyboards, and we want them all to like this experience)

thanks in advance!
digiKam is a great app and seems the obvious choice for us since it's free and open, we do not want to use proprietary software just because this little problem.

p.s. i'm not familiar with open source development or even with programing as a whole, so if i'm looking for help in the wrong place, please inform me.
