Description Salvo "LtWorf" Tomaselli 2009-02-19 00:10:11 UTC
Version: 0.70.0 (using 4.2.00 (KDE 4.2.0), Debian packages)
Compiler: cc
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.28-2.slh.5-sidux-686

Kopete doesn't connect to windows live messenger. It just says "connecting...".
Kopete from kde3, emesene are working correctly.

The same is happening here, i'm using KDE 4.2.1 and kopete 0.70.0 from openSUSE.
Kernel version is 2.6.27.19-3.2-default for x86_64
Comment 2 Rubén "Tío Rubo" Sar 2009-04-03 16:46:35 UTC
Update: Just updated to KDE 4.2.2 and Kopete 0.70.2 and the issue still persists.
Comment 3 Ramón Zarazúa 2009-04-08 22:29:14 UTC
Yes, I have that on my Suse 11.1, and kubuntu 8.10 installations, I believe the issue is actually that libmsn 4.0beta3 has not been ported yet. Apparently there was a recent change in WLM protocol, so libmsn 3.9 uses the old protocol.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=186032 is a duplicate too.

Is there any debug-mode for kopete? I am willing to help tracking the bug down.

I can understand if there is not much priority for fixing the bug with the microsoft messaging service. Unfortunately I and I assume many others too have many contacts who use it. May be it is not much work to do after there is debug info.
Comment 7 m.wege 2009-05-31 13:47:05 UTC
The problem could be related to old configuration data from the msn-plugin from old kopete. I just registered a new account and this connects without a problem. But of course I want to use my normal account (which works well using Kmess). Just deleting all configs of Kopete is not an option and deleting the part the is relevant is a bit complicated. The configs seems to be very complicated. So a fix from kopete devs could mean just to delete all old msn related configs. Deleting the WLM account within kopete and adding it again does not help.

Could you compile & install libmsn 4.0 beta5 with -DCMAKE_CXX_FLAGS=-DDEBUG parameter during cmake and start kopete from console and send the console info to kedgedev (at) gmail.com.

I don't know how the password is encoded in the stream so that's why I'm asking you to send it to my mail and not post it here.

If you need any help please go to kopete channel on freenode.net and ping me "kedge"
Comment 9 Tomás Cohen Arazi 2009-07-16 05:52:32 UTC
I use Ubuntu (jaunty and then karmic) and Gentoo. Since I moved to KDE 4.2 I can no longer connect to MSN using my gmail account. It works with my @mail.com and @hotmail.com accounts. I've tried with a clean .kde dir without success.

I've installed libmsn0.1-4.0~beta6-1 and libmsn0-1-dbg-4.0~beta6-1. The only error I get from console is

MSN: Error: basic_string::_S_construct NULL not valid

I think i should mark this bug as resolved since it is working for me now.
Comment 11 Roman Jarosz 2010-01-17 10:29:11 UTC
Salvo says that it works now so I'm closing this, If anybody still can't connect please create new bug report.
