Description Praedor Tempus 2009-02-17 19:23:28 UTC
Version: 1.10.4 (using 4.1.4 (KDE 4.1.4), Mandriva Linux release 2009.0 (Official) for i586)
Compiler: gcc
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.27.10-desktop-1mnb

I have run into this issue repeatedly. I am running KDE 4.1.3, Mandriva 2009.0, kmail 1.10.4. When I try to send emails containing a URL (derived from the konqueror File menu "Send Link Address..."), it almost always refuses to actually send. As soon as I hit "Send" to 1 To: recipient and/or CC'd recipients, nothing happens. Kmail freezes and will no longer respond to inputs, CPU activity does NOT spike. I have to kill kmail (kontact) by clicking the X button in the window which brings up the "Kmail is not responding...etc" message after 5 seconds. Restarting kontact/kmail after termination brings up the offending email once again and an attempt to send it once more leads to the same frozen result.

Do you have signing or encrypting turned on ?
Can you check with a current (4.3) version of KDE and if that still happens, can you install the debug packages and attach to the blocking kmail with gdb and attach here a backtrace output ?

I run into this issue whether I have signing activated or not. Same with encryption. I HAVE found that the freeze isn't permanent. I have found that if I simply let the hung email sit for a while, eventually it will actually send. The effect isn't just web links either. For some reason, it seems that either the number of CC entries or, perhaps, the mix of email address roots (@gmail.com, @msn.com, etc) are the culprit. I can find no messages in dmesg or in /var/log/syslog that have any clear association with mail. If I send to any of the CC'd individuals alone, there is no freeze/delay. It only occurs when they are all together. I usually only send to 3 or 4 people simultaneously so it isn't a long CC list. The emails hail from msn.com, verizon.net, and earthlink.net.

I am not able to test 4.3 as of yet. I will try installing the debug packages as requested.

Hello! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this version of Kmail has been unmaintained for many years so I am closing this bug. Please try using the latest version of Kmail to see if your issue persists. If it does, please submit a new bug in "kmail2". Thank you!
