Description Florian Hubold 2009-02-15 13:43:30 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.0)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Mandriva RPMs

Sometimes knotify4 leaves notify dialogs openen, without a possibility to close, even killing knotify4 process itself does nothing.
This mostly happens for me when extracting (rar)archives with ark via servicemenu-entries, in the special case when a password is needed and the wrong one is supplied. The resulting dialog is looking like this:

Comment 1 Olivier Goffart 2009-02-15 17:31:01 UTC
I noticed that as well.
It might be because knotify has been closed, then plasma keep all the popup open.

I think plasma should allow to close the popups.
Comment 2 Florian Hubold 2009-02-17 00:44:45 UTC
I think this has another reason.
Because when extracting normal archives with ark, the dialog field has the "X" in the upper right corner right from the beginning, but password-protected-ones don't have this possibility to close this.
Maybe this is more of an Ark bug than anything else. I already sent a mail to the maintainer, but got no answer, so i filed this bug.

Related to the problem, what also puzzles me, is the fact that nothing can be configured for knotify notification dialogs. And there also should be a possibility to close all of them, f.ex. by right-clicking on knotify icon in systray and choose something like "close all" or something the like.

Maybe i should file a seperate bug report for Ark?

I forgot: in reply to comment#1: It's not because knotify has been closed in between, because when you kill all knotify processes, the dialogs stay open and knotify respawns itself, if i have observed correctly.

Can you please test this with latest kde ? (4.2.x and also with 4.3 beta/trunk)

Thanks

Tested again with KDE 4.2.2, is there a fast way to test 4.3 beta or trunk?
Would a test with KDE4 Live be enough?

Back to topic: Seems the problem got worse, when trying to extract a password-protected file with ark, there is no dialog anymore, but ark keeps running in the background.
When logging out and back in, there are as many ark windows open as often as you tried to open a password-protected file, but no error message from knotify or something else.

Main problem ist still valid, all Ark notifications have no "action" buttons on
them, i mean for pause/stop and also for close.

Should i report this directly against ark?

It would be nice if you could report Ark bugs directly to Ark.
You can wait your distro to upgrade the packages to 4.3. Not sure about KDE Live...

I think this is not an Ark bug. It's plasma/knotify related.
I can reproduce the problem in kopete.
Steps:
chat with someone.
Ask him to leave the chat and get back in a few seconds.
Send him a message while it is offline.
go to another window so the chat window looses focus.
If the user enters the chat again. You get a "freezed" new notification for its message

Which kde version ?

I have 4.2.4. But the problem is too old to remeber. From the beginnings of the New notification system appearance.

It should be fixed on trunk.
Comment 11 Michael Reiher 2009-07-04 11:36:11 UTC
Does this mean it should be fixed in 4.3 rc1?

I'm seeing this currently with 4.3 rc1and a kwalletd notification from Kopete. There is no X button to force close it and neither "Ignore" nor "Switch to Kopete" buttons on it do anything. It seems to stay up forever now.

As for the buttons not reacting: I opened the wallet and it auto closed before I even noticed this notification. So maybe the notification lost it's communications partner?

Is this still an issue with latest kde? please reopen if yes
Comment 13 Florian Hubold 2009-12-12 11:37:04 UTC
Seems fixed with kde 4.3.2. No problems with ark or knotify ever since. I really like the way of the "new" knotify system.

Thanks for solving this.
