Description Damian 2009-02-14 13:13:32 UTC
Version: 1.0 (using KDE 4.2.0)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages

The system tray is not showing any icons, just a black rectangle. It
always had problems withe icons (they looked blurry sometimes) but now
the situation is worse.

I'm using a gentoo system with kdelibs version 4.2.0-r2 and
nvidia-drivers version 180.29.

In addition, Alexander Rodin is not the mantainer, so I think the information of this widget should state:
    "Please report bugs to rodin.alexander@gmail.com"

Please let me know if you need more information.

Hi, would you attach a screenshot as example? Thanks a lot!

Screenshot of the systray bug

The screenshot shows the problem I have with the systray applet. The non-kde apps are shown ok, the problem seems to appear with kde 4.2 apps.

Let me know if you need additional info.

This may be related to bug 158094

I have the same problem. This is what happend:

System: Opensuse 11 on a HP Pavilion dv2000 laptop (intel graphics)

* A working 4.2.0 install (with a few quirks but thats not the point), system tray was ok though icons had a black square border
* I updated all kde4* packages in yast to 4.2.0
* Logged out and logged in again
* System tray was now just a black rectangle (no individual icons just a long black rectangle. You could not interact with the icons in any way.
* changed the theme, now all you could see was individual black squares for each icon, still cant interact with them
* removed the 2 plasma config files in .kde4 : didnt help
* changed theme again, turned of desktop effects
* now my system try is just invisible, it takes up space on the panel but you dont actually see anything, only if you right click on it do you get a system tray menu but nothing else. So no icons, nothing.

Im tracking the latest kde4 packages from suse in the hope it magically gets fixed :)

Also, there are some systray graphical issue when using some special X.org configurations: ( bug 170283 / bug 178242 / bug 181897 )
Also, a lot of problems related to this were fixed with Qt4.5.0

Please, report updates on this when you test with latest versions of kde (4.2.x and also with 4.3 beta).

Thanks for reporting

The same problem in KDE 4.2.3, installed from:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSUSE_10.3/

openSUSE 10.3 x86_64

ATi proprietary drivers 8.58.2

Qt version 4.5.1

The problem disappeared when I downgraded to ATi Catalyst to 8.44.3, so it may be connected with the graphic drivers.
