Description Eirik Johansen Bjørgan 2009-02-11 23:59:53 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.0)
OS: Linux
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

Some days ago I managed to delete all my email, the files in kde4 apps folder.
So I want to propose a suggestion that mail-files has it own user, so the mail-files cannot be deleted my accident.
What do you guys think?

I see some problems with your approach, for example:

* kmail must change the effective user id to be allowed to read/write the mails. But also must have the real user id to open kaddressbook, akonadi resources, ....

Therefore, kmail will be more complex (and more bugs to come :-().

I propose you a much simpler solution:
move kmail directory somewhere else (into a safe directory) and make a symbolic link to the default place.
