Description anton 2009-02-08 11:47:18 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.0)
OS: Linux
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

Hi,

I'm using "restore manually saved session" option for kde session manager and usually have a number of konqueror instances (at least 2-3 and more) with multiple tabs opened on different virtual desktops.

Currently when I log out and login again I always have some problems with restoring those konqueror instances. For example:

- Receive dialog telling me that konqueror want to restore a session after a crash with 3 options "restore", "do not restore", "ask later" - I press "ask later" to let it open the tabs it wanted to open - ok, this might mean that konqueror has crashed silently when I was logging out - this happens constantly.
- Sometimes I can randomly lose some saved konqueror window with all its tabs - I can receive a copy of another window with all its tabs instead of it (so I have 2 konqueror windows with the same set of opened tabs), or receive nothing at all - the window just lost
- Sometimes windows from old sessions (which were not save last time) are also loaded
- Sometimes windows are opened on the wrong desktop

I can't give exact steps to reproduce each issue, but I think one can try to save session with multiple konqueror windows with multiple tabs with different sites loaded and then restore it - I think some of the described problems would appear.

Besides konqueror, I also have krusader and firefox opened on different desktops and also a big number of applications sitting in the tray - all they seem to work correctly with session manager.

The first point is probably that konqueror crashed. The rest of them, I've suffered them too (except for the konqueror window appearing in the wrong desktop, and that would most probably a KWin bug anyway).

It became a bit better in 4.3 betas (currently I have rc2) - for example in some cases I was able to logout/login and session was restored without "restore after crash" notification, but most time I still receive it.

I think the main issue is that konqueror crashes on poweroff/logout, other issues just follow this one and happen much more rare (I do not remember having lost windows for recent time, probably because currently I have less multitab windows saved in a session).
