Description Tony O'Bryan 2009-02-07 23:12:54 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.0)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

KDE's file IO slave has always overlooked a major feature of multi-user operating systems, that being the existence of multiple user accounts. While the fish and sftp IO slaves will prompt for login credentials when moving files between user accounts, the file IO slave will not.

It would be nice if the file IO slave, which is by far the most used IO slave in KDE, would mimic its secure counterparts and acquire the needed permissions for moving files between different user accounts. As it stands, I either have to type in a fish/sftp URL or use the command line when moving files between accounts.

a use case for this is copying files into a system folder - the dialog should state that this might be dangerous and still prompt for root password to do so.

Also when saving system files in kwrite siilar dialog should appear. This would made easier editing /etc files in a GUI editor.
