Description Patrick Grimm 2009-02-01 02:41:25 UTC
Version: 4.2.0 (using KDE 4.2.0)
Compiler: gcc 4.1.2
OS: Linux
Installed from: Gentoo Packages

When konsole is opened with a transparent profile and desktop effect shadows are enabled the background is not completely transparent.

To reproduce create/edit a konsole profile. From the edit dialog select the appearance tab, click edit and move the "Background Transparency" slider to 100%. In System Settings/Desktop/Desktop Effects/General enable "Shadows". Open a konsole session and notice that the background is not truly transparent. Open System Settings, disable desktop effect shadows and apply to render the konsole completely transparent.

I understand that this may not be a konsole specific issue but it is very easy to demonstrate with this application.

can't reproduce this in KDE-4.7.0

AFAIK, In 4.7 the old shadow effect is gone. The shadow effect is now provided by window decoration, not by kwin.

I just wondered why I do not have Konsole transparency any longer, and found this bug report. I went into systemsettings -> desktop appearance -> window decorations -> Configure Decoration -> Shadows (translated from German), disabled Drop-Down Shadow, and the transparency is back.

Using 4.7.1 now on Gentoo Linux, but I'm pretty sure it also happened with 4.7.

The interesting thing: I activated the shadow in order to see what I would be missing, and: The shadows are back, and so is the transparency! So, turning shadows off cures from the problem, and turning on again does not make it re-appear.

I did not log out yet to see if this cure is permanent, though, and cannot do so right now because I hav a VM running. But I will come back here in case the problem reappears.

Can someone reopen the bug?

Sorry - please ignore that. That was another effect, apparently the transparency was activated by accidentally using the scroll wheel on the Konsole's title bar.

So, there is no transparency at all in my Konsoles with KDE 4.7.x, unless I make the whoel window transparent via the scroll wheel on the title bar.

I just logged out and back in, and there it is - transparency in Konsole. Just as it should be. Shadows are still enabled.
My sessions last some days and sometimes a week, but I am sure that at least the last 2-3 times I logged in, I did not have transparency.
