Description Colin Walls 2009-01-30 12:35:32 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.0)
OS: Linux
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

Closing a window occasionally causes the text in other panes to become corrupted. This happens for kmail, konsole and kate.

With kmail it happens when a message has been sent and the compose window is closed.

I am using the Nvidia driver on Suse 11.1

Snapshot of the kmail preview window.

This shows the corruption of text in kmail

I guess this is due to the nvidia driver.
I've never experienced something like this (using ati).

Does it happens with the desktop effects activaded and also deactivated?

Sorry it has taken so long to respond to this, I have been trying various options with my configuration.

It doesn't appear to happen when I use the NV driver or have the desktop effects deactivated. However, since the effect is intermittent it is difficult to be sure about this.

I have got it to show on the title bar of windows. It does appear to happen most frequently when I close a window on a virtual screen with another application containing a text pane on the same virtual screen.

What is your nVidia (official) driver version ? Are you using the last version ?
Comment 5 Colin Walls 2009-03-19 10:03:32 UTC
I am using

nvidia-gfxG02-kmp-default-180.29_2.6.27.18_0.3-0.1
x11-video-nvidiaG02-180.29-0.1

both of these are the latest available from the Nvidia repository for SuSE

I really don't think this should be assigned to kmail.

not sure where it should go, but it isn't right to be here.

Darío, could you reassign to a more suitable product? Or just mark DOWNSTREAM/UPSTREAM/INVALID??
Comment 7 Colin Walls 2009-03-19 16:00:05 UTC
It shouldn't go in kmail. I get the effect in a number of places when displaying text, kmail is one, konsole is another, kate a third. It also occurs with kwin in that the text on window titles can become scrambled.

Let's guess it is a drivers/graphical configuration problem. Please, test with an updated NVidia driver, or changing your configuration (like font rendering hints, antialiasing, options in your Xorg.conf file). Thanks
