Description Marco Carrai 2009-01-26 15:27:00 UTC
Version: sconosciuto (using 4.1.96 (KDE 4.1.96 (KDE 4.2 RC1)) "release 78.2", KDE:KDE4:Factory:Desktop / openSUSE_11.1)
Compiler: gcc
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.27.7-9-pae

I tried to install a scripted plasmoid trought khotnewstuff but i can't. For example:
Try to install lastmoid. I press install and everything works fine. Then i close khotnewstuff window and i get:
Installation of /tmp/kde-marcoH3HW4a///98117-Lastmoid01.tar.gz failed!

And then:
Installation of /tmp/kde-marcoH3HW4a/// failed!

The plasmoid isn't installed.

I can confirm this with kdebase r912512 and kdelibs r912511 from SVN compiled on and up-to-date Kubuntu 8.10 machine:

plasmapkg(10847)/KZip KZip::openArchive: Invalid ZIP file. Unexpected end of file.
plasmapkg(10847)/libplasma Plasma::Package::installPackage: Could not open package file: "/tmp/kde-astan///98117-Lastmoid01.tar.gz"
Installation of /tmp/kde-astan///98117-Lastmoid01.tar.gz failed.
plasma(10784)/knewstuff (api): Command failed

I can also confirm this bug with KDE 4.2 RC1 on Slackware
My error message looks the same as posted above.
Comment 3 Marco Carrai 2009-01-26 17:57:23 UTC
An important things. Plasmoid aren't corrupted. If you download them from kde-look , you can unzip them safely without errors
Comment 4 Todd 2009-03-07 17:47:12 UTC
I am having this problem as well in KDE 4.2.1 on two different computers using openSUSE 11.1.

I've just found a workaround in a Kubuntu forum:
For some reason you need not only python-plasma (in OpenSuse named python-kdebase4), but also python-dev(el), but there is no dependency indication for that in python-kde4 etc.
After I'd installed the packages, I could run the plasmoid scripts - GHNS, however, still claims there were errors - but at least it works.

I'm having a similar issue, but the crash stopped after a update to KDE 4.2.2, in Mandriva 2009.1 cooker (post RC2). Any widget that I try to add give me this dialog saying that the installation failed, but the widget is in fact installed.

My language in pt_BR and the problem also happens with Kubuntu Jaunty (march 10 snapshot), with KDE 4.2.2. My problem is better described in this bug below:

Thank you.
