Version: 1.11.0 (using 4.1.96 (KDE 4.1.96 (KDE 4.2 RC1)), Kubuntu packages) Compiler: cc OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.27-9-generic kmail message view uses khtml to show the messages, but even i've disabled smooth scrolling in konqueror it is still enabled in kmail, it should either follow konqueror's setting or provide a setting to disable it
Duplicate of bug #119281 ?
I wouldn't say it's exactly a duplicate of that bug: it deals with composing messages, while a setting for turning off smooth scrolling also when viewing mails would be even better. Is there a way to turn off smooth scrolling for all khtml parts?
I have the same issue and would love to know how smooth scrolling can be turned off.
You can do this manually, but not from within kmail. Edit your kmailrc file (~/.kde4/share/config/kmailrc) and add to the section [HTML Settings] SmoothScrolling=Disabled
Thanks for the tip. KMail in 4.3 is very responsive so I don't need to turn it off anymore but it's nice to know how to do it.
I tried the workaround suggested by Martin Koller but it doesn't seem to work. After adding the two lines to ~/.kde4/share/config/kmailrc the message view still uses smooth scrolling. (KMail 1.12.1)
I double checked and it works. Make sure your kmail/kontact is no longer running (ps -ef ...), then edit kmailrc. Probably your distribution does not use ~/.kde4 but ~/.kde
You are right Martin, I thought Debian used ~/.kde4 but it is indeed just ~/.kde, after changing the right file the workaround works fine. Thank you.
I can't enable smooth scrolling. I've tried adding [HTML Settings] SmoothScrolling=Enabled in my kmailrc file but it didn't work after restarting KMail. I don't have Konqueror installed, if that makes a difference (Kubuntu 13.10, KDE 4.12).
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report. KMail2 was released in 2011, and the entire code base went through significant changes. We are currently in the process of porting to Qt5 and KF5. It is unlikely that these bugs are still valid in KMail2. We welcome you to try out KMail 2 with the KDE 4.14 release and give your feedback.
