Description Bernd Weigelt 2009-01-23 19:18:30 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.1.96)
OS: Linux
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

I've added this error to another Bugreport https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=171805
but i think that was the wrong way ;-)

I got this false error below:
openSuSE 11.1 and 11.0
looks a little bit like a timeout from the server, before this
message i have wait more then 150 secs, but if i use knode 0.10.9, everything is ok.
Since a few days knode asks after the message for my account-password. I use kwallet for the passwordmanagment.

In a console, could you run "kdebugdialog --fullmode" and set up the debug area "7114 kio_nntp" to output to shell.
Then run knode from the console, this should give more information to understand the problem.

Comment 3 Bernd Weigelt 2009-02-01 12:20:36 UTC
First, sorry for my bad english, last lesson is a long time ago.

I have made this so with "kdebugdialog --fullmode", but there is nothing :(

Then i started wireshark to sniff a little bit at eth0.

The message comes from the Usenet-Server 150 sec after my last query
for new postings, but is shown later, if i self 'look for new messages'.
When i now 'look for new messages' again, then knode ask for the password.

After some minutes, i can't say how long, cause i can't get it at the point, i can look for messages without problems.

If kde4-knode look, here all 10min, then the error is never shown, but the new messages.

Packet from server is attached.
Comment 4 Bernd Weigelt 2009-03-10 19:08:25 UTC
In the last few days, i have tried find more about this problem.
I have installed some debug-Packages to get more infos on the shell, but there is nothing, but some messages when i click a posting to read it.

I can remember, that are some postings in the knode-mailinglist a few month ago about using a server with authentication, this seems to be my problem, too.
knode don't send the authentication again or don't take the password from config or kwallet, if the connection is lost after 150 seconds. In other versions of knode is the possibility to hold the connection for a longer time, default 300 seconds, i miss this function now.
Comment 5 Bernd Weigelt 2009-04-03 15:52:17 UTC
When i start knode, then the password for my server will taken from kwallet. When the 205-Package has arrived, i have to enter the password manually, when i want to get new messages. it is not taken from kwallet.
I got now some entries in .xsessions-error:

kio_nntp(4300): Unexpected response to "GROUP" command: ( 205 ) 205 Timeout after 150 seconds, articles 1, bytes 1728, groups 12, posts 1, postbytes 639

kio_nntp(4300): Unexpected response to "MODE READER" command: ( 480 ) 480 Authentication Required

Now i have to enter the password, it is not taken from kwallet, why not???

After the 480-Package follws one with
381 (More Authentication Required)
then password is send

Then follows 281 (Authentication accepted)

Now i can work for last send/received posting +150 sec
After every answer to a posting i have to renew the authentication, i'm not amused ;-)

I have set the pollinterval to 2min, seems to work,
but it's only a workaround

Hello! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this project has been unmaintained for many years so I am closing this bug.
