This nice feature is e.g. found in Windows Vista, and IMHO would be very nice to have in KDE4 as well, at least as an option.
The desktop is shown in the list of running apps from the window switchers (ALT+TAB) like other windows are (with a thumbnail), so its possible to navigate to the desktop with ALT+TAB
