Description Iuri Fiedoruk 2009-01-16 13:42:27 UTC
Version: (using Devel)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Compiled sources

Using KDE 4.2 RC1 in Ubuntu on my eePC 701 machine I'm having a really annoying bug:
- click to logout
- the logout window/plasmoid starts to get drawn in the screen
- session crashes
- lost all configurations done to KDE
(repeat until TRUE) :)

- remove my .kde directory, did not solved the problem
- disabled desktop effects, same thing

Any more suggestions to fix this?
I can't sadly get a backtrace, as the KDE and X11 just dies and return to KDM.

Can you try changing the Plasma theme to another non-Oxygen one (like "Aya" or "Heron" , "Slim Glow"). I mean the Plasma Themes (RMB on Desktop, Appearance Settings, Plasma Theme option) that it's different to the Widget Style (Oxygen/Plastique/Cleanlooks...).

If the session doesn't crash when using a non-Oxygen Plasma Theme, this is an already known and fixed bug :)
Give it a try

Thanks

Unluckily for me, that does not appear to be the case :-(
Also, notived the logout screen start appearing not in the middle, but a bit off to the right side of screen.

Also, screen goes black, maybe this is related to another bug about screen corrupted by the log-out window?

"- lost all configurations done to KDE"

with 4.2 rc1? unless there's some file system hokum going on, i highly doubt that.

does the log out dialog appear at all, or does the screen only fade / go black?

Yes, you are right, I lost only part of the configurations (what programs should or should not start, and another small ones). Anyway I found a dbus command to force session saving the helped a bit.

The screen fade to black (very fast, not as usual) and for kind of a tird of a second you can notive the format of the logout window appearning - without any content on it, it appears as a kind of gray, and crash, back to the KDM wallpaper, and after a while, to KDM itself.

I tryied to record with my cellphone, but now I'm not being able to see it (it was very fast) [do not take me as a liar, it was there, but murphy law seems to be in action today] :(

ok, with that explanation i'm nearly certain it's the bug Dario is talking about. the question is whether the fix that went in for it was in rc1 or not.

The fix for the bug 179978 , missed RC1 (http://websvn.kde.org/?view=rev&revision=909478)

I've experienced this bug since upgrading to KDE 4,2 RC1, but As Darío mentioned, using another theme (Aya) instead of Oxygen fixes the problem.
