Description David Todd 2009-01-15 11:32:42 UTC
Version: 2.0 (using KDE 4.1.3)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Mandriva RPMs

Certain MP3 tracks in my collection simply will not play in Amarok 2. There seems to be no reason for this as other tracks with the same bitrate and/or sample rate play fine. The 'offending' tracks play fine in Movieplayer, VLC and Gxine.

I can send an example file if required.

STOP PRESS! I have just found out what the problem is. The file name had square brackets in it. The original file name was:

Elton John - Dream Ticket - Rocket Man[DVD].mp3

Renamed it to:

Elton John - Dream Ticket - Rocket Man.mp3

and it plays fine!

Mandriva uses the GStreamer Phonon backend by default. This one is currently very buggy.

Switch to the xine Phonon backend for a better experience.
