Description Quentin Denis 2009-01-12 14:29:06 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.1.3)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

Compared to most modern desktops (OS X, Vista and even the old XP), KDE 4 windows with oxygen still looks old fashioned, despite the nice icons and very polished plasma themes. In fact, menus and toolbars are sticked on a plain gray flat surface, without any relief or even color fading. It give the impression that cool stuff is just placed on a old gray sheet, with no separators and raised elements. That's really a pity, especially when considered how much effort and innovation was put into the new visual side of KDE4.

A second disappointment is the space consuming design and arrangement of the elements. Menus and configuration windows are blown in space even if there is little content. It is surely not comfortable for little screens (especially when you have to move with pressed [alt]), nor for bigger screens since it is at the expense of good overview.
(another report is handling this issue, here a screenshot: https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=24410)

As I said, it's really a pity and it seems to be unchanged in the upcoming 4.2. However, I hope there will either be improvements in Oxygen or a new and better syle will show up (any recommendations?).

Kind regards
