Version: (using KDE 4.1.1) OS: Linux Installed from: Ubuntu Packages I have a desktop and a laptop. I'd like the environment on both to be kept in sync. This means mirroring some of the home space, and making sure all those application settings are common between the two. Of course, there's always going to be *something* that needs to be set one way for my laptop and another way for my desktop. So, it sounds like KDE needs a framework for managing, merging and synchronizing application settings across multiple machines. This feature would greatly enhance 'user experience' for those who live a semi-roaming life, and don't have the option of hosting some stuff 'in the sky'.
This could probably tie into https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=179841 You can do this without KDE if you set up some jobs and scripts to back up and pull down configurations, but that might be a bit risky.
This is a great idea, but it's a huge undertaking. Not only is the client-side work enormous, but there would have to be a server-side component too. Storing data on a 3rd-party server is another big deal, and it costs money and introduces GDPR risks today. If it were a peer-to-peer infrastructure, it would be less useful since it would only work on your LAN or something. If anyone wants to start work on this, that would be fantastic. But it's the kind of huge project that's a bit out of scope for the bug tracker, sorry. :)
