Version: (using KDE 4.1.3) OS: Linux Installed from: Ubuntu Packages With Konqueror, viewing a directory in icon mode. I have a directory full of JPG images taken at two different resolutions. All the smaller files display as thumbnails, but the ones taken at a larger resolution (about 1.6 MB) display only as icons, not thumbnails.
If it's displaying an "image icon" instead the image itself may be possible that the thumbnail couldn't be created because of an error (strange image format, or something else). Can you try to upload the "broken" images to one image/file hosting services to post the links here ? Thanks :)
Wait Dario, maybe it's only the setting for the maximum file size for the preview: settings->file management - views -> file previews

The possibility that the behaviour was intentionally size-dependent never crossed my mind. I don't think that users typically expect the behaviour of a feature to change in this sort of manner. For example, it was only because I went investigating that I discovered that the common feature of all the pictures being displayed as icons was that they were larger than the other pictures (taken by a different person). From a usability and consistency standpoint, wouldn't it better for the size limit to be optional, and for the default to be that there is no limit? Normally one doesn't even think about the fact that one's pictures may have different sizes (the only reason I noticed was because I went looking to see what feature was shared by the pictures displayed with icons) . I can't imagine that ordinary users would ever stumble across this setting, except in frustration after it tripped them up (like it did me); surely it would be better to allow knowledgeable users to emplace a limit if they want, but for the default to be "no limit". Thank you, though, for pointing out this setting to me.
At first I close this bug as "worksforme" because it was the problem. About having this feature "optional" there is already a open wish about it. (valid for dolphin and konqueror too). Look at bug #154855
