Description Jonathan Jesse 2008-12-09 19:56:49 UTC
Version: (using Devel)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Compiled sources

When I right-click in the application launcher and select sort alphabetically the sort is by application name, not primary name which is displayed.
problem with this is the primary name is what people are scanning and the application name is not displayed until mouse over, so it is impossible to figure out how the sort is done.

"application launcher "

do you mean the taskbar? or? and by "primary name" you mean the title as shown in the window?

if so .. how would that work with grouping by program? =)

Sorry by application launcher I am refering to Kickoff, sorry about that.
Comment 3 Aaron J. Seigo 2008-12-10 20:25:10 UTC
... there is no such setting in kickoff. where are you seeing this option, exactly?
Comment 4 Jonathan Jesse 2008-12-10 20:38:29 UTC
seeing this in the favorites section, open kickoff, right click select sort alphabetically (a to z) and the opposite option sort alpahbetically (z to a)

sorry if i am not using the right term for this.

trying to capture a screen

aha! ok.. so it's the context menu on items in the favourites page. thanks, it's all clear now =)

p.s. there's an awesome screenshot app called ksnapshot in kdegraphics =)

Glad it finally made sense, was having a problem with ksnapshot and capturing a right click option. maybe i just dont know how to capture the image correctly.

was trying to open up both kickoff and take a new snapshot at same time.

thanks the quick response to the my bug Aaron.

"having a problem with ksnapshot and capturing a right click option"

trick is to select Region mode and set a timeout (e.g. 5 seconds) that allows you to set up the screenshot =)

I confirm this bug. Entries in kickoff tabs are sorted according to application *name* (like KNode, Konqueror etc) but kickoff displays application *description* (like News client, Web browser). So even for English application list appears unsorted; and for non-English locale it is totally random. I attach screenshot; notice Akregator on top; in Russian its name starts with a letter from the last part of alphabet and should be sorted as one of last entries.
