Description doc.evans 2008-12-09 19:10:23 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.1.3)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

I just compared the start time for identically-configured kontact on two computers:

on a slower KDE3 machine, time was 6 seconds
on brand new KDE4 machine, the time was 18 seconds

As far as I can tell, the reason seems to be because I am starting kontact with the calendar view, and I have two google calendars incorporated in the view. It appears (maybe I'm wrong) that KDE3 starts and displays without waiting for all remote calendars to finish downloading, whereas KDE4 seems to wait until everything is downloaded (which can take a long time; and might even fail if there's a network problem).

Anyway, the basic bug report here is that starting kontact in calendar view is simply glacial.

This bug has only been reported for versions before 4.14, which have been unsupported for at least two years now. Can anyone tell if this bug still present?

If noone confirms this bug for a Framework-based version of kontact (version 5.0 or later, as part of KDE Applications 15.08 or later), it gets closed in about three months.

Just as announced in my last comment, I close this bug. If you encounter it again in a recent version (at least 5.0 aka 15.08), please open a new one unless it already exists. Thank you for all your input.
