Description steve 2008-12-06 15:53:17 UTC
Version: 0.6.1 (using KDE 4.1.3)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Fedora RPMs

Two things:
first when I open a Wiki page it does not fit in the window provided and there is no horizontal scroll bar.
Wish list:
the company I work for is global. I would like to use Marble as a means of presenting sales and warranty data. To do so I would like to add locations, like the current city locations. You have provided per city links, just click on the city and the info window opens. I would like to add regional links, like North East US, and add sales and warranty info with text and charts (similar to a spread sheet or a presentation). Then scroll in closer to states and cities adding specific information about specific companies that distribute out products. To do so I need the ability to edit some file, or a add and edit a bunch of files.
Thank you.

Marble has a file, I hope, that has the data for each location. How do I edit that list/file/database/what ever it is?

Hi Steve,

http://websvn.kde.org/trunk/KDE/kdeedu/marble/data/placemarks/HOWTO-cities.txt?revision=774902&view=markup

might answer your question. :-)

Hmmm, I have discovered that you are a software engineer. That is really cool. Evidently you are quite a good engineer. But I am not. At all. Here is a great big Christmas wish. I wish for tool, made for the layman, that will enable me to edit the placemarks. It would have to be a fill in the blanks GUI, like filling a database form. I would have to be able to add, edit, and delete my data as I chose.
What do you think?

I think that you developers at Marble are building a really cool technology. I suspect that your main goal is to give people a tool to explore the world with. You are doing great, Marble is a wonderful tool for exploring the world. Thank you!!
Here are a couple more possible uses:
Geographical family genealogy. People would enter their own locations and specific family data, as well as photos, and short videos. They could use a next generation Tom Boy Notes like tool to link family members together.
Business presentation system, this would be a giant step up form the .ppt.
The presentation of demographic data.
Basically Marble is a people and places information tool, and as such is a great tool for many people in many positions.
But then this is easy for me, after all you are the engineers.
Thank you again!!
Steve

Thanks for your kind words! And thanks for your valuable feedback. Unfortunately we only have limited development power, so it looks like we won't be able to deliver your xmas wish right in time ;-( . We have a few other features which are also very important and which need to be finished in time for the release in January. So I'm afraid that this feature wish won't be ready by that time. But I'll try to sneak it into Marble shortly afterwards (maybe even for 0.7.1 already ...).

Now that in kde 4.3 beta 1 the wiki page have scrolls (vertical and horizontal), only remains the wishes.
