Description pierre Moulin 2008-12-06 09:54:38 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.1.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Mandriva RPMs

After a fresh start of the machine and login with my user name, I can see that some plasmoid have disappeared and among them the mandriva launcher menu.
After reinstall of the plasmoid, switching this menu to classic style and trying to open an application from menu list causes the plasma crash. This often happen.
My machine is pentium double core.

[pierre@hp ~]$ uname -a
Linux hp 2.6.27.5-desktop-2mnb #1 SMP Thu Nov 20 16:04:36 EST 2008 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7300 @ 2.00GHz GNU/Linux

This issue is so important that i will soon come back to KDE 3 which was working fine on linux i586

Hi, you should precise what plasmoid made the crash and also install the debug packages from Mandriva in order to get a good backtrace of the crash.
Your backtrace indicates
plasma_applet_mandrivalauncher.so
which, if this is the cause, is a Mandriva product and not a KDE one.
Thanks in advance for more information,

Anne-Marie

Same situation after a freh restart of the machine. This time the Menu plasmoid was still there. Trying to use the menu list to open an internet application caused a plasma crashed and caused the signal 6

Please refer to
http://techbase.kde.org/Development/Tutorials/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports
to see how to create a more useful backtrace.

It still seems that Mandriva menu is the culprit.
Comment 4 Aaron J. Seigo 2008-12-06 22:20:14 UTC
yes, this is a known problem with Mandriva's custom menu widget.

annma: i even have this one bookmarked so i can refer to it easily ;)
