Description greatbunzinni 2008-11-29 11:24:13 UTC
Version: 1.10.3 (using KDE 4.1.3)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

If a user enters the wrong password (typo, forgets the real one, etc..) then KMail stores it and uses it whenever that account is being checked. Even after KMail warns that the password is wrong it never prompts for a new one.

It would be nice if KMail prompted for a new password when it received a warning informing that the used password is invalid.

I can confirm that this bug is still present in Kmail 1.12.3.

Kmail's behaviour is quite user-unfriendly: It tells you that your password is wrong (which is true) but gives you now chance of typing it again.
There is no obvious clue on where to correct it. It takes fiddling in the kwallet and/or kmail settings to get it right.

I concur with the original poster's suggestion:
When the user enters a wrong password, just show a message that the password was wrong and then display the password dialog again.
BTW, that is the behaviour of thunderbird and all other password-prompting apps I know.

I just tested in KDE 4.3.4 (kmail 1.12.4) After having a wrong password kmail prompts for entering a new one. Has this been fixed in 4.3.4 or is something strange here?
