Description Maciej Pilichowski 2008-11-16 21:34:56 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.1.3)

use initial back button for switching to last location in previous session

Let's say dolphin always starts in
/home/guest

our user guest launches dolphin, works a bit with images
/home/guest/images/summer/2008
and then quits dolphin

Later he would like to work some more, he/she launches dolphin again, dolphin shows
/home/guest

Now. Wouldn't be nice if our guest user could press <= (back button) to get to the last location? Here
/home/guest/images/summer/2008

It is also quite logical, because _previously_ she/he was there.

I think this will exclude bug #175338 (and viceversa)...
Comment 2 Maciej Pilichowski 2008-11-16 22:36:24 UTC
In which way? The other one is an option for people who would like to start immediately from latest point.

This one is for everybody else. How this can be contradiction?

Is not a contraddiction, simply if you have this option enabled, the wish on bug #175338 is not applicable.

Simply, if both wish are implemented, when this option is enabled the back button obviously should't load the last position, because it is already loaded :-)

... it was only a obvious consideration, nothing more :-)

Finex, no, if you have history, and the last point is the one you are currently on, then the back operation is like up.

Run dolphin, click back -- you get "up" not back, because there is no previous history.

The same is true for having start-point at the previous location and clicking back, no previous history, back behaves like up.

I think that, this both things can be implemented.
If user want start dolphin in last location everytimes, he can turn on this in settings. And he don't want to have back button.
But if user don't want it every start, where is the problem in having optional "back" button for last location?
We can in both only store location when dolphin is closing and on new start decide what location should be opened by force setting or optional button ;)

So I think that this both wishes would be little but useful improvement :)

Thanks

Resetting assignee to default as per bug #305719

The issue still persists.
If in Configure>Configure Dolphin>Startup>Show on startup you select to go to a specific location, "back" will be disabled at startup, no matter the location.
(Curiously, if you select to go where you were previously (which is the default, and not relevant for this issue), "back" allow you to go home.)
