Hi, thanks for your bugreport. Could you perhaps describe what you were doing when the crash happened? (It looks like the crash occurred in KNewStuff) Can you perhaps even reliably reproduce it? If so, how?

Created attachment 28510 [details] Crasch when trying to change plasma settings I used the tool to change settings for my desktop (in swedish: "Anpassa skrivbordet") and changed the number of desktops from 4 to 2. When I pushed the button to carry out the changes, plasma crashed and all my previous settings disappeared except that I now have default settings on everything but the number of desktops. I now have 2. All other settings disappeared. These were additions made during the same login session. Computer: Packard Bell with intel core 2 dual kernel, Mandriva One 2009.0

@Serafim: The backtrace you attached seems unrelated to the crash described in this bugreport. If you can reproduce the crah, can you please have a look at http://techbase.kde.org/Development/Tutorials/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports, install the debugging symbols for your distribution and create a new bugreport for the crash? (Its also useful to have the debugging packages installed just in case that you stuble across some "random crash") Regrettably here decreasing the number of desktops works.

If this crash happens frequently to you I'd suggest that you too have a look at http://techbase.kde.org/Development/Tutorials/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports, install the debugging packages for your distribution and create a new bugreport with a more verbose backtrace. Fix found here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdebase-workspace/+bug/258861 When dragging url from browser to desktop OR desktop widget? it generates "script?" on ~/.kde/share/config/plasma-appletsrc and that "script?" causes the crash I hope dragging wont generate the script, because "normal" users wont figure this out.

Before the upgrade desktop was fine and I had a Kget session running. which I stopped 4 .torrents and then logged in again (from my default Gnome). As I type I'm using Konqueror to save the attachment <plasma.kcrash. Since KDE 4.0 the Plasma was the most unstable feature in KDE4 and apparently has yet to be debuuged, Marty Felker Floyd, VA USA

I moved a panel, deleted a panel, and have cairo-dock running with compiz as the window manager. The original crash is bug 167473 (now fixed) There are a lot of different and completely unrelated crashes here. To all the crash reporters of this bug: If you can still reproduce your crashes using a recent KDE version (4.1.4/ 4.1.96 / 4.2.0), please, before creating a new report, check the backtraces inside a possible "duplicate". If you look at your backtraces you will notice they are a LOT different to the original reported here. Try to not guide yourselfs by the report title (as this may lead to a lot of confusion and report mixing) BTW the Mandriva crash (comment 13) is due a bug in the Mandriva launcher, you should report that crash to Mandriva team as it isn't KDE fault Thanks to all. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 167473 ***
