Can you reproduce this crash? If not we have a problem because your backtrace regrettably is completely useless... (see http://techbase.kde.org/Development/Tutorials/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports on how to get useful backtraces)

However, it looks as if you stumbled upon bug #169147. Do you have an nvidia card and are using the closed-source drivers?
Comment 2 Alexander Ponyatikh 2008-11-01 08:01:54 UTC
I have the same problem.
KWin either freezes or crashes on every logon.
Qt: 4.4.3
KDE: 4.1.2 (KDE 4.1.2)
KWin: 3.0
Kubuntu: 8.10 x64
nvidia driver 177.80

Comment 3 Alexander Ponyatikh 2008-11-01 08:04:36 UTC
And yes, after it is restarted, it works normally from that point.
Comment 4 Deniz Sahin 2008-11-01 12:11:05 UTC
All right I missed to write some further information in my bug report. This is my machine and yes, I am using the closed-source nvidia driver.
I also use some 3-D desktop effects. If a list of active effects is helpful I will generate a list.

Here the info to my machine:
Qt: 4.4.3
KDE: 4.1.2
KWin: 3.0
Kubuntu: 8.10
nvidia driver 177.80

@ Oliver Putz
Thanks for the Link to the "Development/Tutorials/Debugging/How to create useful crash reports". I will read it through and try to create a useful crash report.

By the way the error occurs now on every KDE long-in.
Comment 5 Alexander Ponyatikh 2008-11-02 11:06:30 UTC
I found that this only happens when the Blur effect is turned on. If I turn it off, KDE boots normally. Tested on 2 PCs, both Kubuntu 8.10 with nvidia 177.80.
Comment 6 lucas 2008-11-02 11:15:16 UTC
If Sahin's is also due to the blur effect then this is a duplicate of bug 164889.
Comment 7 lucas 2008-11-19 09:21:52 UTC
No response, assuming duplicate.
