Version: 0.99.01 (using KDE 4.1.2) OS: Linux Installed from: RedHat RPMs I do not get a list of newsgroups from news.motzarella.org . When I enquired about this I am told there is a bug in knode-0.99: ------------------------------------- >> Obviously, upgrading Fedora 9 to 10 has also upgraded KDE to version 4.x >> or at least knode from version 0.10 (which works very well with >> Motzarella) to version 0.99 (which is a PITA in many respects). >> As there is no way knode 0.99 can be used with the standard Motzarella >> setup, could you please try using reader.motzarella.org instead? > Thanks for the info. > I'm really surprised that news-server and news-reader > can be so mis-aligned. > I would have assumed that the protocol both used were pretty standard. The protocol is standardized, but some developers of new reader software make false assumptions on possible setups of the news servers they are talking to. KNode 0.10 was OK in that respect, I wonder why 0.99 is broken again. If a user specifies a username and password, the software should simply use this information rather than trying to be clever and fail at that ;-) I have now checked with KNode 0.99 and news.motzarella.org:8119 is indeed the only setting that works. KNode 0.99 even fails to retrieve all news groups from reader.motzarella.org, which runs a newer version of INN (INN 2.5) with a few minor bugs fixed in the protocol. news.motzarella.org:8119 runs INN 2.4.5 with a different permissions configuration, that's what makes the difference. -------------------------------------
