Description BSOST Plasma Desktop Project 2008-10-23 20:02:30 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.1.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Mandriva RPMs

Plasma Device Notifier needs to be configurable for example the current inability to open a dvd for playback directly in a media program, isn't a wish list it's a show stopper to all home desktop computer users. For such a small oversight to make a brilliant desktop environment unusable in an everyday desktop experience needs to be rectified asap.

It actually is possible to do that, but it's just not very easy to do right now. So I guess we'll have to wait until 4.3, since 4.2 doesn't have a GUI to configure media devices. Hang tight!

Hi. I think this wish is somehow related to wish #164221. Thanks.
Comment 3 Aaron J. Seigo 2008-12-25 09:09:04 UTC
it's one .desktop file and ought to accompany the dvd player app. this is exactly as in kde3, btw.

anyways, this is indeed a wish vs a bug.

The ability to set it to always react a given way, including utterly ignoring the device (Such as when a data cd/dvd is inserted; I know this, I've just done it. Don't hover and block my screen until mouse-over to tell me what I already know!) and not popping up at all.

It is insanely annoying; I've had to remove it since there's no even remotely obvious way to configure it.

Since KDE SC 4.3 you have a new configuration module on SystemSettings which allows you to setup different actions (starting an app, and so on) for every kind of device connected (filtering this by connection type or media content)

You can find it on System Settings/Advanced tab/"Device Actions"

On KDE SC 4.4, this KCM is embedded in the DeviceNotifier own settings dialog.

- Have you tried those options ?
