Description Olaf Lenz 2008-10-13 11:04:08 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.1.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

When using application icons on the desktop, the description of the icon is rendered in the "Normal text" colour of the "Window" colour set (as determined by changing the colour in KControl->Appearance->Colors->Colors->Window->"Normal Text").

Usually, the "Window" colourset uses a light colour scheme (e.g. the default colour scheme), where dark text is used on light background.

However, the background colour of the desktop is independent of the window colours. Therefore, when the desktop background is dark, a dark font is used on the dark background (see the attached snapshot).

To solve this problem, it would be necessary to introduce a new colourset "Desktop", additionally to the coloursets "Window", "View", etc., that is used to determine the colours on the Desktop. Alternatively, it is also thinkable, that desktop icons use the same decorations as the other plasmoids.

I would like to second this request. Being able to differentiate the font colours per desktop element ([Color:Workspace] or [Color:Desktop] and [Color:Panel]) would make theming more flexible.

At the moment using dark wallpapers is only possible when using dark Plasma themes. When using a theme like Aya you tend to run into problems like this one: http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/7044/blackonblackaa3.png

Hello!

This feature request was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this feature request is already implemented in Plasma 5, or is no longer applicable.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this feature request. If the requested feature is still desired but not implemented in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!

Nate Graham
