Version: (using KDE 4.1.2) OS: Linux Installed from: Ubuntu Packages When using java applications, such as eclipse or open office, the taskbar will often start flickering and even disappear. From time to time, entire windows will be replaced by black boxes. (as shown here: http://www.mcsundae.com/massive_error.png), which makes the computer unusable. Sometimes virtual desktop switches will restore the newly blacked-out windows; sometimes not. The bug is somewhat described here: http://forums.opensuse.org/applications/391644-eclipse-kde4-1-panel-kicker.html#post1876571
the taskbar issues are graphics card driver problems. the black windows is a kwin compositing issue (not plasma in that case =). what graphics card and driver are you using?
Geforce 6600 w/ Nvidia's driver (version 169.12)
yeah, that card+driver combo is known to have issues ... that's a fairly old driver version, though. perhaps visit: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx and try out a newer driver?
Thanks for the tip; the newer drivers seem to have fixed the black screen issue. However, when using eclipse, plasma still has the flickering/disappearing errors mentioned in my forum link. Does you have any what could cause that?
