Description Johannes Simon 2008-10-05 13:33:48 UTC
Version: 1.6.3 (using KDE 4.1.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Compiled From Sources

One time I forgot that I had only very few space left on my disk, but I updated KDE nevertheless. When the update was done, there was no more disk space left. I noticed that and removed a couple of large files, and thought everything's fine now. But, for some reason, there was still no space left on /tmp. (It must be a linux issue, but that is not really important right now)

Not being aware of that, I edited a rather important file in KSpread, and saved it. It didn't complain about anything, but the next time I opened the document, the contents were missing. More specifically, only the styles were saved, so KSpread couldn't even open the document. I am very sure this has to do with no more space being available on /tmp during the saving process.

I think there should be a generic solution in KOffice to tell the user that space needs to be freed in whatever folder KOffice is trying to write data to. Something like "Could not write data to temporary file directory (/tmp). Please free at least x KBs and try again." would already be very helpful.

Though this happened in KOffice 1.6, I'm pretty sure this is a thing that should go into 2.0.

A solution like http://websvn.kde.org/?revision=1023830&view=revision could be applied if it is not already fixed.

Thank you for your bug report or feature suggestion.

The "KOffice" application suite is no longer maintained, and all tickets are now closed.

We recommend to switch to the "Calligra" application suite, which has replacements for all unmaintained KOffice applications:

- KWord was replaced with Calligra Words
- KPlato was replaced with Calligra Plan

For more information, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calligra_Suite
