Description Stephan Kleine 2008-09-21 22:38:53 UTC
Version: (using Devel)
Compiler: GCC 4.3 KDE4 from openSUSE 11.1 Beta1
OS: Linux
Installed from: Compiled sources

IMHO there are a few things wrong with KGet's drop target plasmoid in KDE4:

1. It doesn't remember its position. Every time I enable it, it drops down from the middle of my screen and falls into the center position instead of remembering where it was the last time and reappearing there.

(this is said to be fixed here: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51512 but apparently an issue again)

2. It floats over all other windows, including full screen windows. IMHO it would be better if one could configure it like:

a) be a normal plasmoid on the desktop that gets hidden behind all windows

b) float on the top of all windows excluding full screen windows

c) float on the top of all windows including full screen windows

(at https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=162548 it is claimed that it wont float over fullscreen windows but this is still the case)

3. When one deselects "Show Drop Target" it raises out of the top of the screen. IMHO it would be better if it would simply "drop" from the screen / disappear to the bottom - as in fall down from the top, do the work and then drop from the screen again.

Last but not least it would be great if one could simply drop URLs on the KGet icon in the systray since this is there anyways and always in the foreground as well which then would make the drop target plasmoid obsolete ;)

You should be able to drop URLs to the systemtray since the port to the new notification system...

1) should be fixed anyway (I pushed a dual-head-fix not too long ago) and 3) is only a minor issue and I'm not even sure if we should go this way...

2) is defo a Wishlist... marking the bug as that...

Same thing for me, the kget's drop target position is not save. It's with KDE SC 4.6, Kubuntu 10.10.

A workaround to save the position of the drop target icon :
move the drop target where you want on your desktop
open kget (main window)
menu Settings -> Configure Kget
Appearance -> Drop target -> uncheck "Show drop target" -> Apply
new position is save in config file, to check, use in konsole :
cat .kde/share/config/kgetrc |grep DropPosition
check Show drop target > OK -> the icon appear in the wrong place...ignore...
quit and restart kget

@Anthony The issue (number 1) you are talking of has been fixed in KDE 4.6.1, see BUG #265185.
