Description Clovis Gladstone 2008-09-18 18:14:07 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.1.1)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

I think it would make sense to make a plasmoid for klipper. It would blend in more with plasma (it lives in the panel after all). Thanks.

This is a great idea. The plasmoid could show a list of the copied content. the user could then easily select the stuff he wants to copy (of course Ctrl+v would also work). This way Klipper would transform from copy/paste tool, in to an information-gathering tool.

It would also mean that Klipper's position in your panel would no longer be determined by the order in which tray icons were initialized. Definitely a good thing.

While so many other things that used to be separated apps have been made into plasmoids, Klipper and Kmix remain. It would be rather useful to have Klipper wherever one wishes.

What’s the point with that stupid text snippets thing anyway? This is a plasmoid which could “adapt” klipper’s capabilities. And in KDE 4.4/4.5 you can add plasmoids to the system tray which removes any need for a separate kmix or klipper application
Comment 6 Esben Mose Hansen 2010-08-31 09:21:22 UTC
There are 2 reasons for keeping Klipper as is: Non-KDE users and lack of time.
Comment 7 Kai Uwe Broulik 2010-08-31 09:25:15 UTC
Non-KDE users have bad luck then and time.. well.. this can be an argument for not implementing ANYthing.. so..

Gosh, how rude I was back in the days.

But I'm glad to announce that today we released Plasma 5.1 which ships with a gorgeous Klipper plasmoid. The stand-alone Klipper is still around for non-KDE environments and for those who just prefer to use that one instead.

More information can be found in the release announcemend and in [1].
