native and kde open file dialog in every kde application causes such error. i can cancel, retry and procced, if i choose procced i can select file

I can confirm that - this happens since 4.0.65 (if i'm not mistaken).
This will happen if you have any removable media (except CD/DVD drives) that is not in it's place. For example, if you have multicardreader - most probably that it's empty or only 1 or 2 cards are plugged into it simultaneously. So, if you "Safely remove" the device the error won't appear any more.
Having 4 slots for memory cards leads to 4 such errors in a row, which almost always causes a crash of an application.

Ah, I've been having this problem as well. Thanks a ton for the solution. I don't have any removable drives like that, but I run virtual hard drives off iso files and with trucrypt. Could that cause this error too? I'm going to try shutting all of those down and see if it works when I get a chance to.
