Description Bassio 2008-09-08 16:35:05 UTC
Version: 1.90 (using 4.1.1 (KDE 4.1.1), Kubuntu packages)
Compiler: gcc
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.24-19-generic

I guess there must be a difference between dragging in the playlist (which moves entries) and CTRL+dragging (which expectedly copies the entry as in any other media player)

I will file this as a bug for now for the devs, assuming maybe this is intended behavior but still missed in code.

Are you suggesting that holding down ctrl when dragging an item already in the playlist, upon the drop the tracks should be duplicated in that spot?

This seems totally weird to me, and fwiw, we never had this functionality in Amarok 1.4.
Comment 2 Bassio 2008-09-09 01:30:56 UTC
hmm .. it wasn't in the 1.4 version!!?

Anyway, this is just a usability issue, but if you open konqueror (or dolphin for that matter) .. and start to drag an item .. then click the CTRL key while the item is in the drag (before you drop it) .. notice the small additional [+] icon.

Even better: try to drag an icon to a nearby folder, a menu will appear saying amongst the options 'copy' with the CTRL shortcut key beside it.

This is because when you drop it now in a nearby folder with the CTRL down, you will copy the file, not move it.

So This is like an almost-universal way of dragging-dropping protocol. :)

Anyway, it was just a suggestion for usability in case the devs forgot to implement it.

But if you won't add this feature then at least contact the kde usability group to see what they think about this. I did not contact them; but I thought that anyone would recognize this widely-available feature in other progs.
I would love to hear their opinion on that matter too. :)

On another hand, I need your suggestion for another way to duplicate a playlist entry.

So sorry, please disregard this message, there was a misunderstanding with the
Google Code-In student.
