There is currently no way to select folders in Kmail via the keyboard. One must first change the current folder (via ctrl+left/right) and then select the chosen folder (via ctrl+space). For clarification, see Comment #1 from Bug# 165422 in which Thomas McGuire explains the situation.

Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented.
